Wasting our lives and glorifying God

Wasting our lives and glorifying God
Notice God's unutterable waste of saints, according to the judgment of the world. God plants His saints in the most useless places. We say - God intends me to be here because I am so useful. Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use. God puts His saints where they will glorify Him, and we are no judges at all of where that is. ~Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, August 10

Real Conversation I Had Yesterday

Lucas is playing Fall Baseball.  Yesterday he had his first practice.  I sat on the grass with the other moms and their children not participating.  And as moms do, we made small talk.

Other mom:  How old is your baby?

Me: She's two-and-a-half.  How old is your little girl?

Other mom: She's almost two.

Me: She's adorable.  I love her hair!  Look at those soft curls.  So precious.

Other mom, with the child still on her lap:  I hate her hair.  I wish she had straight hair.

Me: Oh.  Well, they are very beautiful curls.  But, perhaps they'll be straight as she gets older.  A lot of kids grow out of their curls, unfortunately.

Other mom: That's what people keep saying.  I've cut her hair four or five times.  But, it's still curly.  I don't want her to have curly hair.
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.  Thanks, Thumper.

Well, OK, then.....I can tell this baseball season is going to be a joy sitting next to people like that!  I better come armed with books to read, because I don't think I can have another "polite" conversation like that again.  I might say something I regret.

Seriously, what is the matter with people?  Even IF, God forbid, you hated something about your child's appearance, why would you announce that to the world and in front of the child no less?

I hope this mother is putting money away for her child's therapy some day.

Ack. Sad.

You could suggest to the mother that she entirely shave her little girl's head, and put a wig on her. They exist. http://baby-bangs.com/index2.php :P

I'm with Princess. I don't know if she could tell you had African ancestors, but past a certain point comments like that ARE racist. Hmm. I always wanted my children to have *freckles* because *freckles* are awesome. I can't say I hate my kids' skin because none of them have them, tho'. That's just weird.

Then again, you might say something you don't regret! If you're like me, it's hard to be sure until after it happens!

Sad. My daughter has super curly hair. It's a pain to brush, but I think it's gorgeous. Poor girl having to listen to her mother say things like that.

Oh sad, pray that God would have her actually "listen" to what she is saying.
Yes, and to give you strength! Love your picture of Thumper.
