Wasting our lives and glorifying God

Wasting our lives and glorifying God
Notice God's unutterable waste of saints, according to the judgment of the world. God plants His saints in the most useless places. We say - God intends me to be here because I am so useful. Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use. God puts His saints where they will glorify Him, and we are no judges at all of where that is. ~Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, August 10

You know you're pregnant when.....

Personally, I think "What To Expect When You're Expecting" is the stupidest book ever written for a pregnant woman.  It's full of generalizations and things that make any new mom fearful.  "Oh, no!  I just ate some tuna!"  "I need go go schedule an amnio, I'm over 35!"  "I have so much baby stuff to buy!  I'm going to go broke!"  Ick.  (Birth Without Fear recently blogged something similar.)

That said, here is my personal list of what to expect when I AM expecting:

~I will go grocery shopping and then leave my groceries in the car.  All night.

~I will have to remove my rings around the end of the first trimester.

~My nose will appear to grow several sizes.

~I will cry at sitcoms, commercials or a forwarded email with puppy and kitten pictures.

~I will feel like sleeping until noon, but will have an amazing burst of energy about 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

~I will lose all ability to gauge how much my food is salted.  It will always be way over-salted or way-under salted.  Start setting the table with extra ice water and the salt shaker, in either case.

~Likewise, I will lose all ability to gauge how hot or cold it is.  I'll be wearing a sweater or my swimsuit--sometimes changing midway through the day.

~I will start having an ongoing conversation with my belly.  Sometimes out loud.

~I will start craving things that I don't even like--such as soda, ice, and red meat.

~I will get extremely--extremely!--irritated when someone says he or she can't do something and then expect me to do it (such as bring meals to people, volunteer for ministry stuff, host a shower or party, or show up for a required meeting) because their life is "too busy" or "I have too much going on."  YOU have too much going on?  I'm growin' a human being and raising six others!  Suck it up and make time.  That's what grown-ups do.

~I will have the ability to smell dirty hair two rows behind me in church.

~I will have to buy new water glasses and mugs and/or dishes before the pregnancy is over.  Somewhere around the end of the second trimester I get so clumsy that I break something about once a day.

~I will have to field dozens of questions about why I haven't had an ultrasound, a group B strep test, or a glucose test.  What bugs people even more is when I won't give a firm due date, but say things like, "Oh, in the Fall" or "Sometime September or October."

~I sigh for seemingly no reason whatsoever.  Sometimes it's from contentment (I really do love being pregnant) and sometimes from exhaustion (I did after all just walk up a flight of stairs carrying an extra 50 pounds or so).

About two weeks before Saraa was born.

OK, inquiring (pregnant) minds want to know: What are your favorite pregnancy resources for information?

I've just convinced my husband to look into homebirth this time around, but it really comes down to the financial aspect of it. Medi-Cal will pay for a hospital birth, but I'm doubtful they'll pay for a midwife. I'm praying that wherever we're supposed to give birth will be made very clear. I need it to be--hormonal baby brain doesn't work too well for me. ;)

THANK YOU for giving me so many of the CUTEST babies ever so that I don't have to go through all of what you just mentioned. It really does save me so much time and is so much easier on me. Thanks again. Smooches.

@The Princess Bombshell, glad I could be of assistance. :-)

@Serena, On my old blog I've blogged quite a bit about pregnancy and birth, including home birth, and there should be lots of links from there, if I remember correctly. gombojav.blogspot.com As for other books, I like Natural Childbirth The Bradley Way (not to be confused with Dr. Bradley's own book, Husband Coached Childbirth. Easy read for husbands, too.

Gentle Birth Choices is good (book and video). Look up Water Birth International for good stuff. And I don't think any childbirth class can compare with a good Bradley Class. So much information and empowerment for moms and dads.

Hope this helps!!!!

Oh, look up Birth Without Fear on Facebook. Lots of good stuff there!!!!

I am SO glad you said that about the book! That was the worst book anyone ever gave me when I was pregnant with my first child and I threw it away! Talk about creating unnecessary anxiety and stress! I hope many, many pregnant moms take your advice and throw that book in the "books I should never read, loan out, or give as a gift" pile!

One more thing for the pregnancy list ... the dropsies! I always new I was pregnant early on when I started dropping things left and right!

I think my login is going to be "writingmom" when I sign in, so ... This is Elizabeth ..Dawne's daughter : )

TOO funny!! The pregnancy nose thing tends to be very true. Pregnant womens noses does have a tendency to spread a bit! I never experienced any of the other things. Hmmm!
