Wasting our lives and glorifying God

Wasting our lives and glorifying God
Notice God's unutterable waste of saints, according to the judgment of the world. God plants His saints in the most useless places. We say - God intends me to be here because I am so useful. Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use. God puts His saints where they will glorify Him, and we are no judges at all of where that is. ~Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, August 10

Historic Mixed Feelings

Ding Dong.  Bin Laden is dead.

Forgive this bi-polar post.  I'm happy and sad, proud and irritated.

I'm so proud of our service men and women.  So many brave people willing to risk their lives for my safety and for, indeed, the safety of the world.

"Greater love has no one than this....."

And my intensely patriotic soul is so proud of being an American.  Forgive the sentimental video.  I can't help myself:

And I'm happy.  I know that this gives a lot of closure to a lot of people who lost everything dear to them on September 11, 2001.

To be honest, I'm also a little irritated that I've heard people already heaping accolades on President Obama and "all of his hard work."  Excuse me?  He didn't even believe we should be in this war.  Remember he voted against it?  And spoke against the war (it was one of his campaign platforms!) and President Bush's determination to go there?  What short memories we all have.  And now he gets all the credit.  Well, for me, the credit goes to our military.  They were the ones who risked it all--not just their political future.

I'm also sad.  Perhaps it wouldn't have made a difference if he was caught instead of killed, but I wish--in my intensely idealistic heart--that he would have had a chance to repent.  Regardless of how evil and heartless--no one is beyond the saving blood of Jesus.

"Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, And He turn away His wrath from him."  Proverbs 24:17-18  (and all my Quaker friends said, Amen?)

Irritated and sad.  Proud and happy.

Good-night.  God bless the U.S.A.

My thoughts exactly, swee.

I already had someone tell me to not be "happy" about this because he was a person, too. And the U.S. kills a bunch of people over oil and money.

Amen. Jesus loved and died for even the most wicked among us. I'm glad he can't hurt anyone anymore (although countless others will rise to take his place), but very disappointed at Christians that would celebrate a man's death. The thought of the judgement Osama will face, that we all deserve, should be a sobering thought.

I have had the exact same thoughts, even down to telling my sister that I think a little bit of Quakerism is harbored in my heart. We had the news on for quite a while on Sunday night, and when the cheering, sign-carrying crowds started appearing in front of the White House, this went through my mind: Ezekiel 33:11 "'As I live!' declares the Lord GOD, 'I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways!..'"

This was also the FIRST TIME EVER that I have been really interested in what Obama had to say. Something I'm thinking is that the reality of necessity of our military's actions in the Middle East has caused him to -- not publicly, but in action -- change his mind.
