Wasting our lives and glorifying God

Wasting our lives and glorifying God
Notice God's unutterable waste of saints, according to the judgment of the world. God plants His saints in the most useless places. We say - God intends me to be here because I am so useful. Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use. God puts His saints where they will glorify Him, and we are no judges at all of where that is. ~Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, August 10

The Autumn Manifesto

"Oh Marilla," she exclaimed one Saturday morning, coming dancing in with her arms full of gorgeous boughs, "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.  It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn't it?  Look at these maple branches.  Don't they give you a  thrill--several thrills?  I'm going to decorate my room with them."  (Anne in Anne of Green Gables)

Inspired by the blog Last Day Of May, here is my manifesto for Autumn:

1. On chilly days I will have cider simmering in the crockpot so we can enjoy it all day.

2. I will read some classic books to the children.

3. I will make hearty, stick-to-your-rib dinners that are piping hot and comforting.

4. I will keep the throw blankets freshened up and at easy access.

5. I will celebrate Reformation Day with my family and friends.

6. I will place pumpkins and fall decorations throughout the house.

7. I will bake some of those pumpkins into yummy things like bread, muffins, and pie.

8. I will make liberal use of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.

9. I will play board games with the children in the evenings, instead of being on the computer or in front of the TV.

10. I will plant our winter garden.

11. I will stay home more and go out less.

12. I will take the children through Jennifer Toledo's book Eyes That See, Ears That Hear again.

13. I will teach the children a new prayer: We Thank Thee.

For mother-love and father-care
For brothers strong and sisters fair
For love at home, and here each day
For guidance lest we go astray,
Father in heaven, We Thank Thee

For this new morning with its light
For rest and shelter of the night
For health and food, for love and friends
For ev'rthing His goodness sends
Father in heaven, We Thank Thee

14. I will buy new pillows for all the beds.

15. I will write some old-fashioned letters to old friends, instead of just sending email.

I love it!

Does "I will make it through it" not cut it? :-) Okay, I will work on a better one.
